Laura Brown is in London with her band The Dirty Angels.They are playing all over the city until a police crackdown forces them out. They then set off on a tour of Europe and soon find themselves embroiled in a series of difficult situations, both environmental and personal.

10-year-old Judith McPherson's world is regimented by her father's faith. Her mother was fun and liked making things, but she has gone, so Judith consoles herself with 'The Land of Decoration' - an intricate model of The Promised Land which she has built in her bedroom. Emma not only loses the starring role in the school play to her friend, she is given the role as the unglamorous third donkey. As if this isn’t bad enough it looks like she might lose her best friend to a boy.
