Central Africa, 1914; Rose Sayer, a thirty-three year-old English woman, is left alone when her missionary brother dies. She becomes allies with Charles Allnutt, disreputable skipper of the steam-powered launch 'African Queen'. Marooned in German Central Africa during World War I, they fight their way downriver 'to strike a blow for England'.

1812 and the fate of Europe lies in the hands of newly appointed Commodore Hornblower. Horatio must halt the advance of Napoleon's empire into Sweden and Russia. But first he must battle the terrible Baltic weather of fog, snow and icebound waterways.  Book 9 of series.

Captain Hornblower finds himself a prisoner in the French fortress of Rosas, having had to surrender his ship, but only after seriously disabling three French ships.  Book 8 of series..

Hornblower is in command of a 36-gun frigate and has instructions to form an alliance against the Spanish colonies, and destroy a fifty-gun Spanish ship. He also has to contend with the charms of an unwanted passenger, Lady Barbara Wellesley.  Book 6 of series.

Book 3 of the Hornblower series. On the day of his marriage to Maria, Hornblower is ordered to take the Hotspur and head for Brest. Putting aside thoughts of his new life as a husband, Hornblower must prove himself to be the most capable commander in the fleet, if he is to stop the French.  Book 3 of series.

Book 5 of the Hornblower series. Horatio Hornblower takes charge of the Atropos, a 22-gun sloop that will act as flagship for the funeral procession of Lord Nelson. Soon it forms part of the assault against Napoleon carrying out a daring operation to salvage buried treasure from Turkish waters.

Hornblower agrees to a dangerous mission which could turn into his greatest defeat. As Napoleon prepares to invade England he obtains confidential dispatches which are a means of luring the French fleet into battle. The story was unfinished on Forester’s death. Two short stories are also included.  Book 4 of series.

Book 11 of the Hornblower series. 1815, the Napoleonic Wars are over. Yet Horatio Hornblower, Commander-in-chief of His Majesty's ships still needs his courage and leadership to ensure that the lasting peace in Europe reaches the turbulent seas of the West West Indies.  Book 11 of series.

Horatio Hornblower receives his first command and, from the moment he is ordered aboard a French ship in the Bay of Biscay, proves his worth.  Book 1 of series.

Book 7 of the Hornblower series. May 1810. Captain Horatio Hornblower is newly in command of his first ship of the line, the seventy-four-gun HMS Sutherland. But the grisly prospect of defeat and capture looms as the Sutherland single-handedly takes on four French ships.
