Esther Cheo Ying

Although born in pre-Revolutionary China Esther Cheo Ying was brought up in the Midlands. She returned to China in 1949 hoping to find a sense of belonging. Sympathetic to the Communist Revolution, she joined the Red Army and worked in the new People’s Republic but, despite everything, dissatisfaction gradually crept in.
