It is summer on the island of Mithros and the arrival of investigator Hermes Diaktoros coincides with a mysterious death, which has an echo of a brutal unsolved murder in the island's recent past. As Hermes sets about solving the complex puzzle it becomes clear that the bull of Mithros may be the least of the island's shadowy mysteries.

For over half a century the beautiful Temple of Apollo has been in the care of the beekeeper Gabrilis, an old friend of Hermes Diaktoros. Then, not long after Gabrilis has signed away the land, Diaktoros discovers his friend's battered body by the roadside, and finds himself the prime suspect.

Hermes Diaktoros, the inimitable Greek detective, is drawn to the mountains by a wish to see an old and dear friend and finds himself embroiled in the mysteries of the tiny village of Vrisi, as well as the enigmatic last will and testament of Greece's most admired modern poet.
