It is the late 18th century and discoveries are being made in medical areas such as vaccination and the spread of infection. Alec Gordon returns to Scotland to take the post of Physician to the Aberdeen Dispensary. He has plans to modernise the medical practices when a mysterious disease hits the town, attacking and killing every newly delivered mother.
