Michael Chabon

In 1944 a talking parrot belonging to a young Jewish refugee is stolen. The boy is bereft and a retired detective starts to search for the bird, but why has it been stolen, and what do the german numbers it keeps repeating mean? After numerous clues and dead ends an elegant solution is finally found.
