Donald James Wheal

In this sequel to ‘World’s End’ (7833) Donald Wheal and his family find themselves homeless after an air raid in 1944. After the war his adolescence was spent in an anonymous London suburb. He subsequently travelled around Britain and war-ravaged France, ending up in National Service in Germany and Italy.

A memoir of the author’s childhood growing up in World’s End, Chelsea during WWII. Donald’s family lived a life of stark poverty in contrast to their privileged neighbours a stone’s throw away. At the age of nine Donald’s world changed dramatically as war was declared.
