On the 17th June 1940, the Lancastria, a 16,000-ton liner was anchored off the port of St-Nazaire with thousands of fleeing Allied troops on board when the ship was bombed by the Luftwaffe; 4,000 died. This is the story of the people involved and the cover-up that ensued.
