At a dinner, solicitor Eric Ward meets Ben Shaw, a merchant banker. Shaw seems to know a lot about Eric, and suggests he look into the affairs of Jason Sullivan QC. Meanwhile DCI Charlie Spate is asked to re-open an old case into the killing of Michael Podro.

Eric Ward, solicitor, is in search of missing executive Harry Saughton. A body washed ashore in Spain leads Eric to Berwick, and another murder.
