The seasons come and go and every spring Omakayas and her family build themselves a new birchbark house, and leave it in the autumn. The year the white men come is one of heartbreak and omakayas is forced to grow up quickly.

Fidelis Waldvogel leaves Germany for America after the First World War to settle in North Dakota. There he establishes his business, raises a family and starts a singing club. But it is when he meets Delphine Watzka that the great adventure of Fidelis's life begins.
