The discovery of an ancient coffin in the grounds of Glastonbury Abbey leads the local monks to believe they have found the remains of King Arthur and his queen. When the relics are stolen Gwyneth and Hereward set out to find them.

When Hereward finds a sword, he doesn't realise that it is Excalibur and that his life is now in danger. Others want Excalibur so they can claim the throne of England. Ursus and Gwyneth must persuade Hereward to return the treasured sword to its burial place.
