The Burnout Doctor begins by contextualising burnout for us (looking at factors such as our current economic climate and hybrid working); then helps us understand the differences between burnout and similar problems such as trauma, anxiety, PTSD; explains why burnout matters by looking at the impact burnout has on our bodies; and guides us though recognising burnout in ourselves and others.
Dr Claire then outlines her three-pronged approach to burnout recovery, which includes: work on the individual (internal factors such as personality traits that might make you more vulnerable to burnout and how to protect yourself from these), work on a systems level (changes in your work place and organisations, with an acknowledgment of how these can be hard to achieve), plus work on your career development (how to shape your current career to help sustain burnout recovery) as recovery is impossible without significant changes at work unfortunately.
