The very first Famous Five adventure, featuring Julian, Dick, Anne, not forgetting tomboy George and her beloved dog, Timmy! There's a shipwreck off Kirrin Island! But where is the treasure? The Famous Five are on the trail - looking for clues - but they're not alone! Someone else has got the same idea. Time is running out for the Famous Five, who will follow the clues and get to the treasure first?

The Famous Five go to stay at the large old house at Smuggler's Top. Can there still be smuggler's there? The gang discover lots of hiding places and even underground tunnels. Then they catch people signalling out to sea - who are they?

The Famous Five are on holiday in horse-drawn caravans - and they have discovered a ruined castle nearby. However, the castle isn't empty - the Famous Five have seen a desperate face at the tower window. Who is hiding in the castle?

Someone is trying to lure the unwary onto treacherous rocks on the coast by flashing lights from the old tower on stormy nights, but why? The Famous Five investigate!
