This is an historical and humanitarian story of 'Swansea Jack', an intelligent and lovable retriever dog of the 1930s, whose life was devoted to humanity.
His mischievous adventures as a puppy cause a public nuisance, resulting in a change of ownership. Nevertheless, his good work and brave deeds throughout the rest of his short but full life more than made up for his earlier misdemeanours bringing him and his owner, William James Thomas, fame if not fortune.
This story relates his feats of bravery in saving people from drowning, fundraising and nationwide travel, bringing glory to his home town of Swansea, South Wales, which in turn bestowed numerous honours upon him. He was also given the highest award merited by a dog - The Canine V. C.
