Flora Chapman is in her fifties when her husband dies in a bizarre accident. She decides to finish his history of Hurcott Ducis, but a reference to Anne of Cleves leads her to do her own research. Meanwhile, in the Louvre, Holbein's portrait of Anne begins to tell the story of how she survived the Tudor marriage.
